Independent Turkmenistan will continue to purposefully advance the doctrine of peacefulness and neutrality on the global stage

During an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on December 6, which was attended by the heads of Turkmenistan’s diplomatic missions and consular offices abroad, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov outlined the key priorities of the country’s foreign policy course aimed at further promoting the doctrine of peacefulness. Respect of the International Community The Head of State emphasized that the upcoming representative Forum of the International Year of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat will play an important role in strengthening Turkmenistan’s international authority. It is expected that the Forum will not only demonstrate Turkmenistan’s status as a peace-loving state, but also serve as clear evidence of the international community’s respect for the Turkmen people and the country’s policy of positive neutrality. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that all these events vividly reflect the country’s foreign policy and highlight the importance of efforts aimed at maintaining global peace, sustainable development, and expanding dialogue based on trust. In this regard, he underlined the importance of further effective expansion of cooperation with international organizations. Foreign policy priorities for 2026 The foreign policy concept of neutral Turkmenistan remains broad and multi-vector. Next year, the country intends to significantly expand cooperation both bilaterally and multilaterally. The key directions include: On dialogue with neighbors The President particularly emphasized the importance of dialogue with neighboring states. Turkmenistan will continue to strengthen relations based on friendship, good-neighborliness, and mutual respect with the countries of Central Asia and the Caspian region. On economic cooperation Close partnership with the member states of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) will continue. Economic, energy, transport, and communication spheres remain in focus. On expanding the geography of partnerships Turkmenistan plans to significantly expand its engagement with the countries of South Asia, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region. The Head of State noted that these regions demonstrate significant economic and technological progress and show great interest in cooperation with Ashgabat. Thus, Turkmenistan is confidently entering a new period guided by the principles of positive neutrality and actively contributing to the strengthening of international dialogue and global security.
