The Work Plan for 2025 on Cooperation Between the Government of Turkmenistan and the OSCE Approved
On January 31, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers via a digital system, where a number of priority issues of state policy were reviewed. During the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs R. Meredov reported on the Work Plan for Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for 2025. One of the key vectors of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy is the development of constructive partnerships with reputable international organizations, including the OSCE, whose cooperation covers a wide range of areas. In this context, it was reported that over the past year, significant efforts were undertaken to promote Turkmenistan’s international initiatives and positions within the key structural divisions of the OSCE. It was also noted that on December 5–6, 2024, the annual ministerial-level meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council was held in Valletta (Republic of Malta) to summarize the results of the work done. During the meeting, Turkmenistan put forward initiatives in areas such as maintaining peace and security, ensuring environmental well-being, and promoting sustainable development on both global and regional scales. At the same time, the necessity of utilizing the potential of neutrality policy in international relations was emphasized. A proposal was made to jointly commemorate 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust", proclaimed by the UN General Assembly at Turkmenistan’s initiative, and to integrate the principles of peace and trust as key elements of the Organization’s agenda. Continuing his report, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that, in cooperation with the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, relevant government bodies, and public organizations of the country, a project plan for implementation in 2025 had been developed. According to this document, specific activities are planned within the key areas of partnership between Turkmenistan and the OSCE. In total, 40 projects are expected to be implemented this year. In particular, in the political sphere, projects are envisaged to contribute to strengthening peace and security, developing preventive diplomacy, and ensuring cybersecurity. Projects in economic and environmental fields are also planned for implementation. These projects are aimed at addressing urgent issues related to economic development, regional economic cooperation, enhancing energy efficiency, strengthening environmental security, and responding to climate change. Furthermore, several projects in the field of humanitarian cooperation have been planned. These include activities in scientific and educational spheres, as well as initiatives related to the protection of human rights and freedoms, the improvement of democratic institutions, gender equality, statelessness issues, and the development of mass media. Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that strengthening partnerships with international organizations remains one of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy. Approving the Work Plan for Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the OSCE for 2025, the head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to carry out the necessary work.
