Turkmenistan and Tajikistan are planning to create a transport route to the Caspian coast
Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov discussed with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon the intensification of cooperation on creating a transport route to the coast of the Caspian Sea, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reports. Reportedly, during the negotiations, the transport sector was identified as one of the priority vectors of partnership between the two countries. According to Hero Arkadag, today there is every opportunity to intensify cooperation to create a transport route from Tajikistan to Turkmenistan, to the Caspian coast, with access to Iran and further to the Persian Gulf, as well as to Turkey. According to information published by the TASS news agency, another priority area of cooperation is the energy sector: in this direction, it is planned to export Turkmen electricity and natural gas to Tajikistan through the territory of Uzbekistan. The National Leader of the Turkmen people recalled that this topic had already been discussed with Rahmon during a meeting in Ashgabat in August last year within the framework of the trilateral Summit of the Heads of State of Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Also, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty noted that the countries are interacting in the field of supply of petroleum products. In this context, Turkmenistan confirmed its readiness to increase the volume of supplies depending on the needs of the Tajik side. The parties also discussed establishing production cooperation. Earlier, the Turkmen side proposed to establish contacts in the field of creating joint ventures for cotton processing and carpet weaving. During the meeting, readiness was expressed to discuss the details of this issue with Tajik partners.
