The delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the international congress held in the UAE

In the period from September 16 to 18, 2024, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in the World Congress of Public Utilities, held in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The event is organized by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates. The Turkmen delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the State Concern Turkmengaz. The Congress was attended by more than 1,400 delegates from more than 90 countries, including ministers, politicians, leaders and representatives of international organizations and business circles. The event was held alongside the Arab Water Forum and included more than a hundred sessions on environmental issues. UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Bin Mohammed Al Mazroui spoke at the opening ceremony of the Congress. On the opening day of the event, discussions were held aimed at solving global water problems, including improved water resources management and the adoption of appropriate policies. After the opening ceremony, the Turkmen delegation visited an exhibition demonstrating achievements in the energy sector, which was presented by 180 organizations. On the second day, a special session was held entitled "Tripling the capacity of renewable energy sources: from plans to actions", dedicated to global efforts to increase the capacity of renewable energy sources. In his speech, Deputy Minister of Energy of Turkmenistan Nurmammet Nurmammedov elaborated on the current work and plans of the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan for the development of renewable energy sources in the country. Francesco La Camera, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), and Dr. Adrian Bazevan, Foreign Affairs Adviser to the Romanian Ministry of Energy, also participated in this session. During the session, participants discussed issues related to improved use of renewable energy, as well as steps to accelerate innovation and investment in this area. *** A separate meeting of the Turkmen delegation with Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Francesco La Camera took place on the sidelines of the Congress. Key issues of cooperation were discussed at the meeting. Turkmenistan presented its renewable energy goals for the period 2025-2030, emphasizing its commitment to partnership with IRENA and the global renewable energy sector. The discussions focused on joint projects in the field of renewable energy, technical assistance and the preparation of an International cooperation Plan for Turkmenistan for 2025-2030. The Director General of IRENA expressed readiness to support the enhancement of Turkmenistan's ambitions in the field of renewable energy within the framework of NDC 3.0. Francesco La Camera also said that as part of efforts to strengthen international cooperation, a Forum on investments in the development of Renewable Energy Sources, organized by IRENA within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP-29) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, is planned to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan in the coming months. He invited Turkmenistan to take part in this event. The parties also discussed the possibility of holding joint events, training specialists for the development of renewable energy. On the last day of the Congress, the delegation of Turkmenistan took part in a session on the role of renewable energy in the future and financing methods involving the private sector.
